Inter Milan had finished second in the Serie A table last term and failed to retain their Scudetto trophy, accumulating 84 points, just two behind champions AC Milan. However, the Nerazziri began their quest to regain the Scudetto with a positive result last Saturday. It was a nail-biting contest at Stadio comunale Via del Mare. Romelu Lukaku put Inter ahead inside the opening two minutes before the hosts equalised through Assan Ceesay, three minutes into the second half. Just when it looked like Nerazzurri might have to settle for a point, wing-back Denzel Dumfries scored the winner in the fifth minute of injury time to earn three points for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Spezia, on the other hand, managed to finish 16th in the table last season, with 36 points, six above the relegation zone. The Little Eagles kicked off their new league campaign with a 1-0 win over Empoli last Sunday. M’Bala Nzola’s lone strike in the 36th-minute was enough to separate the two sides at Alberto Picco and earn three points to Luca Goti’s side. It was a closely fought contest and Gotti would have been relieved to get the better of the Blues. Prior to that, Spezia thrashed Como 5-1 in the first round of the Coppa italia earlier this month.
