Inter Milan will host Salernitana in a Serie A match at San Siro on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against Barcelona in a Champions League fixture on Wednesday. Salernitana, meanwhile, secured a 2-1 victory over Verona last weekend. After a close-fought first half at Camp Nou that saw Barcelona take the lead through Ousmane Dembele’s 40th-minute strike, a chaotic classic unfolded in the second half. Nicolo Barella, Lautaro Martinez and Robin Gosens netted for Inter to share the spoils and pushed the La Liga giants to the brink of Champions League elimination. Prior to that, Nerazzurri beat Sassuolo 2-1 in a league fixture last weekend, courtesy of Edin Dzeko’s brace. It was Inter’s fifth league-win of the season, while the other four ended in defeats.
Salernitana, on the other hand, secured a dramatic victory against Verona at home last Sunday. Krzysztof Piatek’s 18th-minute strike gave the lead to the hosts before Verona equalised through Fabio Depaoli, eleven minutes into the second half. And then, just when it looked like the match might end in a draw, Boulaye Dia scored the winner, seven minutes into the injury time. It was the Garnets’ second league-win of the campaign. Meanwhile Davide Nicola’s side are winless in their last six away games, posting five draws and a defeat.
Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic and striker Romelu Lukaku are sidelined with injuries. Meanwhile, Joaquin Correa is set to return after an injury layoff and is likely to start on the bench. Argentina international Martinez is expected to partner Dzeko up front with Barella, Asllani and Calhanoglu forming the midfield-trio. As for Salernitana, Matteo Lovato, Giulio Maggiore and Franck Ribery are occupying the medical room. Dia could lead the line alongside Piatek.
