Barcelona will be aiming to enter the last-16 stage of Copa del Rey when they travel to Estadio Rico Jose Perez to take on Intercity on Wednesday night. The visitors are heading into the match on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against city rivals Espanyol in a La Liga game Saturday, while Intercity defeated Mirandes 2-0 in their Copa del Rey fixture on December 20. The hosts are currently occupying 16th spot in the Group 2 of Spanish third tier standings. Blaugrana, meanwhile, are sitting at the summit of the La Liga table, with 38 points to their name from 15 games, level on points with reigning champions Real Madrid, but separated by goal-difference. Intercity reached this stage of the competition courtesy of getting the better of Cirbonero (1-0) in the first round on November 13, before defeating Mirandes in the last round. In their last outing, Oriol Soldevila opened the scoring inside the opening seven minutes, before Miguel Mari doubled Gustavo Sivier’s side’s lead in the 66th-minute. Intercity have not been in the league-action since suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Amorebieta on December 17, while they will continue their Primera Division RFEF-Group 2 campaign against Eldense on January 8.
Barcelona, on the other hand, resumed their La Liga campaign following the World Cup break, with a draw against Espanyol in the Barcelona derby at Camp Nou. Blaugrana took the lead through Marcos Alonso inside the opening seven minutes, but Joselu leveled the scores in the 73rd-minute, and the points were ultimately shared. Both sides finished the match with 10-men as Jordi Alba and Vinicius Souza received red cards in the final stages of the game. Since the Catalan club is entering a busy period of their season, head coach Xavi is likely to rotate the squad.
Intercity boss Sivierao is likely to opt for a 5-3-2 formation, with Paul Rioge and Soldevila partnering up front, while Christian Herrera might pull the strings in the midfield. As for Barcelona, Memphis Depay, Ferran Torres and Ousmane Dembele might form the front-three. Meanwhile, Inaki Pena could be given a nod between the sticks, ahead of Ter Stegen.
Intercity possible line-up: Campos, Jaime, Muria, Kecojevic, Galvez, Cristo, Herrera, Mari, Xemi, Soldevila, Roige
Barcelona possible line-up: Pena, Araujo, Kounde, E Garcia, Bellerin, Kessie, F De Jong, Gavi, Depay, F Torres, Dembele
