Two sides looking to return to winning ways in the EFL Championship will be up against each other on Friday night as Hull City play host to Blackburn Rovers at MKM Stadium. Both teams are heading into the match on the back of defeats on the Boxing Day, with the hosts suffering a narrow loss to Sunderland, while the Riversiders were thrashed 3-0 by Huddersfield Town. The Tigers have dropped down to seventh spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 36 points from 24 games, level on points with sixth-placed the Black Cats, while the visitors are languishing at the 15th position, with 31 points to their name.

Hull have been inconsistent in their last couple of weeks, having recorded three wins and four defeats from their previous seven outings. The Tigers ended the month of November with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Rotherham United, but then suffered back-to-back defeats against the likes of Watford and Queens Park Rangers. Although Liam Rosenior’s side bounced back with successive triumphs over Middlesbrough and Cardiff City with an aggregate scoreline of 5-1, they lost 3-2 to Bristol City on December 23 before suffering their eighth second tier defeat of the season against Sunderland last time out. Though Hull dominated the ball and created the majority of the chances, Jack Clarke’s strike condemned the Tigers to a fourth defeat from six contests. Meanwhile, on a positive note, Rosenior’s men have won four of their last six fixtures at MKM Stadium.
Blackburn, on the other hand, have also been inconsistent this season, recording 10 wins, one draw and 13 defeat from 21 Championship games so far. The Riversiders have lost five of their last six contests, while their lone success in the period came against Bristol City on December 12. After that, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side suffered three successive defeats against the likes of Southampton, Watford and Huddersfield, with an aggregate scoreline of 9-2. In what was termed Blackburn’s worst performance of the season, Tomasson’s men conceded three goals against the Terriers on Monday courtesy of efforts from Jaheim Headley, Sorba Thomas and Delano Burgzorg. Meanwhile, Blackburn have been beaten in two of their last nine competitive clashes against Hull in the second tier, although one of those defeats came at Ewood Park in the reverse fixtures this season in August.
