Hong Kong will take on Palestine in their final Group C fixture of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 at Abdulla bin Khalifa Stadium on Tuesday. The Dragons suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Iran on matchday two and are languishing at the bottom of the group, yet to open their account after two games. Lions of Canaan, on the other hand, played out a 1-1 draw with UAE on Friday, taking one point from two league games, three adrift of second-placed United Arab Emirates and five away from leaders Iran.

Hong Kong started their campaign with a 3-1 defeat to least term’s semi-finalist UAE on January 14, despite the fact that Chan Siu Kwan got on the scoresheet. Five days later, the Dragons put forth a spirited performance against Asian heavyweight Iran but couldn’t finish their chances, in the end losing out to Mehdi Gayedi’s lone goal midway through the first-half. Makram Daboub’s men registered seven efforts on target, scored the equaliser through Bader Abaelaziz’s own goal five minutes into the second-half. As a result, they are still without a victory in the finals of this tournament, while a victory on matchday three will put them in a strong position to progress to the knockout stage of the tournament.
