Germany will host Ukraine in an international friendly at Weserstadion on Monday. Ukraine, on the other hand, are gearing up for a pair of qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta later this month. Both sides’ last action was back in March, with the hosts suffering a 3-2 friendly-defeat against Belgium, while the Blue and Yellow were beaten 2-0 by England in the UEFA Euro Qualifier.

Germany had yet another disastrous World Cup campaign, exiting in the group stage for the second consecutive time in Qatar, therefore will be desperate to do well in the 2024 European Championship in front of their own supporters. Despite the World Cup debacle, German Football Association has decided to continue with head coach Hansi Flick. As host nation, DFB-Team will not take part in the qualifying campaign rather will compete in a series of Exhibition matches to warm up for the tournament. Germany’s preparations began in ideal fashion with a comfortable 2-0 win over Peru on March 25, thanks to Niklas Fulkrug’s first-half brace. Ukraine, on the other hand, are aiming to qualify for their fourth consecutive European Championships. The Blue and Yellow are currently sitting at the third spot in Group C, yet two open their account after the first round match, having lost out to the Three Lions on March 25. First half efforts from Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka handed a straightforward victory to England at Wembley Stadium. Apart from England, Sergiy Rebrov’s men will compete against the likes of Italy, North Macedonia and Malta for a place in next years continental championship. Although Ukraine are unbeaten in their last five friendlies, they are winless against Germany in their previous eight encounters, most recently suffering 2-1 and 3-1 defeats in the Nations League.
