The UEFA Euro Qualifiers match between Georgia and Cyprus will take place at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium on Sunday at 6:30 pm IST.
On Sunday afternoon, Georgia and Cyprus, will face each other at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium. They are the two lowest-ranked teams in Group A of Euro 2024 qualifying. Cyprus aims to even the score with the Crusaders after their 2-1 defeat in the previous match. It took place in Larnaca four months ago.
After a string of three losses in Euro 2024 qualifiers from June to September, Georgia achieved a historic feat on Thursday by securing their largest-ever victory, an 8-0 friendly win over Thailand. Georges Mikautadze of Ajax made history by scoring four goals in a single game, a feat not achieved since Shota Arveladze in 1997. The team, led by Willy Sagnol, is now brimming with confidence and needs to follow up on this success to maintain their slim chances of qualifying for their first European Championships. They sit fourth in Group A with four points and also rely on Spain drawing with Norway in Oslo.
Cyprus is one of the five European countries yet to earn any points in Euro 2024 qualifying. They experienced their sixth consecutive defeat with a 4-0 loss to Norway on home turf. In Group A, they’ve conceded as many goals as the world’s lowest-ranked team, San Marino (21), letting in at least three goals in five of their six fixtures, with one exception being a 2-1 loss to Georgia in June. Temur Ketsbaia’s team cannot secure a top-two spot in the group and is playing solely for pride. They’ve not won any of their last 16 competitive away matches since October 2019, with their last victory over Georgia dating back 14 years. Cyprus is ranked 120th in the FIFA world rankings.
