Galatasaray will play host to Bayern Munich in a UEFA Champions League group stage fixture at Rams Park on Tuesday evening. Both sides have made an unbeaten start to their continental campaigns, with the hosts recording one win a draw from two outings to be sitting at the second spot in Group A, while the Bavarians are occupying top spot in the table, having taken a maximum of six points from their two matches so far. The Turkish outfit left Manchester United’s Old Trafford with a stunning 3-2 win on matchday two, while the visitors also came from behind to get the better of Copenhagen 2-1.

Galatasaray twice came from behind to secure all three points against Manchester United on September 3, thanks to equalisers from Wilfried Zaha and Muhammed Akturkoglu, and Mauro Icardi’s winner nine-minutes from time. Four days later Okan Buruk’s men defeated Antalyaspor 2-0 in the Turkish Super Lig. Meanwhile, on their return to action following the international break on Saturday, Cim-Bom got the better Besiktas 2-1 courtesy Icardi’s brace. The result extended their winning run to six games across all competitions, and with eight wins and one draw to show from their first nine league games, Galatasaray are sitting at the second spot in the Turkish top flight standings, just two points adrift of the summit. Yet to lose a single match since the new season commenced, Cim-Bom have a 23-game unbeaten streak to protect when they welcome Bayern to Istanbul.

Bayern, on the other hand, had to dig deep in both their Champions League wins this term, against the likes of Manchester United and Copenhagen. Thomas Tuchel’s men prevailed 4-3 against the Red Devils at Allianz Arena last month courtesy of one goal each from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane and Mathys Tel. Though Bayern were expected to secure a comprehensive victory at Copenhagen on matchday two at the start of October, the German outfit were forced to fight back from a goal down to earn all three points thanks to second-half efforts from Jamal Musiala and Tel. And then, Tuchel’s men went into the international break with a comprehensive 3-0 win over SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga, before securing a 3-1 league-win over Mainz at Mewa Arena on Saturday. Bayern have recorded six wins and two draws from their first eight top flight games and are sitting at the third spot in their Bundesliga standings, with 20 points to their name, two points adrift of surprise leaders Bayern Leverkusen.
