Libya will be hoping to gain a foothold in its group by registering a second successive victory when it faces Equatorial Guinea on Monday. In the Group J clash of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Libya will be looking to build on its opening day win. They had defeated Botswana 1-0 last Wednesday. On the other hand, Equatorial Guinea suffered a disappointing 4-0 defeat against Tunisia in its opener. Hence, they will be looking to bounce back quickly with a win over Libya on Monday.
Libya started its campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Botswana on Wednesday at home. It was a difficult challenge for the home side from the first whistle. Despite dominating the possession, the hosts found it difficult to create many goal scoring opportunities. In the end, Saleh Al Taher’s strike at the start of the second period proved to be enough for the home side. Meanwhile, Equatorial Guinea had a forgettable start to their competition, losing 4-0 to Tunisia.

The scoreline was 1-0 in favour of the home side till the 71st minute when Joanet Lopez got himself a red card. After that the hosts scored three goals to start the competition on a flying note. Overall, Equatorial Guinea’s recent run has been poor as they are winless in their last four games. Their four-match winless streak started against Senegal when they suffered a quarter-final exit from the Africa Cup of Nations. Meanwhile, Libya won three of their last four games and will head into Monday’s clash as the favourites.
There are no major injury concerns surrounding both teams, hence the players that started in their opener might very play again on Monday. The home side though will be without the services of Joanet Lopez, who got himself a red card during Thursday’s game against Tunisia. Josete Miranda, Oscar Siafa and Pablo Ganet are expected to lead the attack for the hosts. For the visitors, Taher ended his recent goal-scoring drought, hence he will be in line to lead their attack once again.
