Liverpool emerged comfortable 3-0 winners over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday. The game was played at Anfield. The victory meant that the Reds went to the top of the table after winning four matches from five. The scorers on the day for Jurgen Klopp’s men were Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita. Palace tried to put up a good fight against the former champions of England. The Eagles successfully held them off until the 43rd minute. Even in the second half, it took the 78th minute for Liverpool to score again. Patrick Viera can be proud of the performance his players showed today despite the scoreline. They were well-disciplined but Liverpool were just too strong.

It took a while for Liverpool to score but the moment came just before half time. Mo Salah was denied by the Palace goalkeeper from a corner but Sadio Mane was on the scene and he made no mistake from point-blank range into an empty net. It might have been a scrappy goal from the Reds but it was the foundation on which they built what would eventually become an incredibly strong performance.

Palace defended well yet again in the second half as they held Liverpool up until the 78th minute of the match. The goal was from a similar scenario as the earlier one. It was another Liverpool corner which was met by the head of defender Virgil Van Djik. The Dutch could not turn it towards goal but the ball went to the far post. Salah was on its case in no time and he coolly slotted the ball home. It might not have been a planned one but the routine was a thing of beauty to the eyes.

GOAL OF THE SEASON?

It only took 11 more minutes for the third goal which sealed the match well and truly. The goal is surely one of the contenders for goal of the season. It was yet another corner routine that went against Palace. The corner was punched out by the Palace keeper but it fell to a waiting Naby Keita at the edge of the penalty area. He struck an outrageous corner. The ball went past the keeper and nestled in the back of the net.

The win means that Liverpool are now at the top of the Premier League table after playing five matches. They have won four out of the five and managed to draw the other one. Fans will be hoping that the Reds can carry this form until the end of the season. They will also hope that Keita can smash a few more bangers in as the season progresses.

Liverpool will play Norwich City in the EFL Cup next on Wednesday. Their next test in the domestic league will be against Premier League new boys Brentford City.
