Manchester City and Arsenal were in action in the Premier League on Saturday. The Gunners managed to scrape through a 1-0 victory against Burnley. Manchester City, however, were absolutely frustrated at home by Southampton in a goalless draw. Ahead of the match, manager Pep Guardiola had asked fans to attend the game and support them. He definitely will not be happy with the result. The defending champions could have been at the top of the table if they managed to secure three points but that will not be the case. They are currently in second place behind Liverpool. In other matches, Brentford recorded an impressive 2-0 away victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Watford recorded a 3-1 win over Norwich City.

It was an utterly disappointing performance from the defending champions. They only managed to get one shot on target at home. The Saints managed to get more as they hit two on target. It was a dismal display from the City attackers as they quite simply seemed toothless on the day. A win would have secured the first place in the league table for the day but City missed out on a golden opportunity. Pep Guardiola’s team will face Wycombe in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, before facing a stern test in the form of Chelsea in the Premier League.

ODEGAARD WONDERSTRIKE SEALS WIN FOR ARSENAL

Arsenal picked up their second successive win after a nervy performance at Turf Moor against a stubborn Burnley side. Manager Sean Dyche has recently been given a four-year contract extension. Arsenal won the game by a goal to nil. The scorer was new signing Martin Odegaard. It came in the 30th minute and was an individual moment of sheer brilliance. The former Real Madrid player curled a sweet left-footed effort from range into the top of the net. It was indeed a sight to withhold.

The effort can definitely be considered as one of the goals of the season so far. Manager Mikel Arteta will definitely heave a sigh of relief as he was under tremendous pressure after Arsenal lost their first three games of the season. They were against Brentford, Manchester City, and Chelsea. The 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford on opening day was the one that got under the skins of Arsenal fans.

The Bees are having a decent start to the season so far. They recorded an impressive 2-0 win against Wolves at the Molineux Stadium. Ivan Toney slotted home a penalty in the 28th minute before Bryan Mbuembo made it two in the 34th. They had to play a large part of the game with 10 men as Shandon Baptiste was shown the red card in the 64th minute.

In the battle between the two newly promoted teams, Watford emerged victorious over Norwich City. The Hornets won by three goals to one. The Watford goals were scored by Emmanuel Bonaventure and Ismaila Sarr. The latter scored a brace. Norwich’s scorer was Finnish striker Teemu Pukki.
