El Salvador came from behind to earn a draw against the Asian giants in Daejeon almost a week ago thanks to Alex Roldan’s 87th-minute equaliser. Although the result ended their five-game losing streak, La Selecta have now not tasted success in their last eight outings across all competitions. Meanwhile, when it comes to the Nations League, Hugo Perez’s side recorded one win, two draws and a defeat from four Group D-games to secure second spot, five points behind USA. Their lone success came against Grenada (3-1) in June last year. Which means, El Salvador have not tasted success in more than a year.
Martinique on the other hand, finished third in the three-team Group C of League A, and had to put together a pair a convincing playoff performances against Saint Lucia and Puerto Rico to book a place in the finals of the Gold Cup. Les Matinino defeated Saint Lucia 3-1 in their opening qualifier, before putting two goals past the Puerta Ricans without reply thanks to second-half effort from Brighton Labeau and Kevin Fortune, in the second qualifier. Marc Collat has been in charge of the side since December 2021 and the former Reims boss knows a thing or two about the Gold Cup, having coached Haiti to the semi-finals at the 2019 edition of the tournament, courtesy of upsetting Canada in the last-eight stage, before losing out to Mexico.
El Salvador probable starting lineup: Gonzalez, Tamacas, Zavaleta, Dominguez, Roldan, Reyes, Landaverde, Orellana, Henriquez, Osorio, Perez
Martinique probable starting lineup: Clementia, Burner, Poulolo, Labonne, Lapis, Mandouki, Herelle, Mexique, Fabien, Fortune, Reuperne
