Chasing a record-extending sixth world title, Brazil have so far lived up to the pre-tournament favourites tag. Even though the South American giants had their ups and downs in Group G, they topped the standings with six points to reach the knockout stage. It was in the last 16 when the much-talked-about Brazilian flair was on full display against an unfortunate South Korean side. Brazil were far too good for the Asian nation, as they eased their way to a 4-1 win. Meanwhile, last year’s runners-up Croatia could only manage a second-place finish in Group F with five points. Even though they will be buoyed by the win over Japan in the shootout, Croatia have to step it up to produce an upset against Brazil.

There are a few injury concerns both countries have to deal with ahead of this clash. Josip Stanisic and Borna Sosa missed the last match for Croatia. While they are both expected to be fit for the quarterfinal, it is still unclear whether they are fully recovered. Otherwise, they have more or less everyone fit and available. Meanwhile, Brazil have already received two big blows with Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles pulling out of the World Cup with injuries. There are also question marks over the participation of Alex Sandro. If he is not fit then Danilo will have to continue at the left-back position. It will also be interesting to see if Neymar, who returned from an injury in the last match, will be fit enough to play a second straight game.
