Chile failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup following a seventh-place finish in the CONMEBOL standings. Eduardo Berrizo was appointed as the head coach of La Roja in May last year and has been tasked with restoring Chile’s glory days. The Argentine tactician’s job is not getting any easier as the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal and Gary Medel are reaching the end of their illustrious career and the team is going through a transformation phase. The 53-year had a disappointing start to his new journey, not recording a single win in their first seven games in charge, before finally getting the better of Paraguay (3-2) in March, thanks to goals from Paulo Diaz, Sanchez and Antony Silva. And then, La Roja secured their second successive win against Cuba last time out courtesy of Marcelo Nunez’s brace and one goal from Rodrigo Echeverria. With that win, Berrizo’s men have extended their unbeaten run to three games.
Dominican Republic, on the other hand, got the better of Belize in their last outing on March 28 thanks to two unanswered goals from Eaderlyn Reyes and Nowend Lorenzo. The result ended Los Quisqueyanos’ six-game winless run, while it was also their first victory under the stewardship of new boss Marcelo Neveleff, who took charge of the team in January. The Dominican Republic, who are ranked 151st in the FIFA Men’s World Rankings, will be looking to give a good account of themselves against a a team sitting 120 places above them in the rankings, on Friday.
Chile probable starting lineup: Campos, Mehssatou, Maripan, Echeverria, Mena, Alarcon, Nunez, Davilla, Medel, Altamirano, Bolados
Dominican Republic probable starting lineup: Santurro, Melo, Garcia, Lopez, Diaz, Dabas, Flores, Messina, Reyes, Azcona, Lorenzo
