Big-spending Chelsea will hope to get their dismal Premier League season back on track when they welcome Fulham to Stamford Bridge. It will be extremely tricky to determine a winner from this Friday night contest. On paper, Chelsea are the clear favourites. Their superior squad quality and depth in every position justifies the favourite tag. However, football is not played on paper and everything is possible on a given day. Besides, form is not on the side of the Blues, which would give hope to the visitors on Friday night.

This contest kick starts another interesting Premier League weekend. With those teams above them involved in several interesting tussles, this match becomes all the more important for both sides to get the three points and move up the table. Even though Chelsea are normally expected to win a fixture of this size, Fulham’s impressive form this season cannot be forgotten. With very little to separate them on the table, both sets of supporters can expect to witness a closely-fought contest on Thursday night.

In the Premier League table, Fulham have 31 points from 21 games to be sitting seventh in the standings. Chelsea are three places and two points below them at 10th spot with 29 points to their name. However, the Blues have played one less game than their opponent. Chelsea’s form in recent past has been extremely worrisome. With the club spending big once again in the January transfer window, the pressure will be on Graham Potter’s shoulders to quickly turn around the tide and mount an unlikely top four challenge.

Possible Lineups

After a heavy-spending summer transfer window, Chelsea fans witnessed another massive January transfer spending spree. More than the injuries, the supporters’ main concern will be about the availability of their new big-money signings. Enzo Fernandez arrived at Stamford Bridge for an all-time English record transfer fee on the deadline day. It is unclear at this point, if the Argentine World Cup winner will be involved in this game.

Another big-money move Mykhailo Mudryk showed supporters a glimpse of his ability during their goalless draw at Anfield. He could be in line to start. However, Joao Felix is still suspended for this game. Jorginho left them for Arsenal in the window, while N’Golo Kante and Denis Zakaria are both injured. It is unclear if Mateo Kovacic is fit. Meanwhile, Fulham will miss Neeskens Kebano. Besides, it will be interesting to see if Cedric Soares, on loan from Arsenal, and other new recruit Sasa Lukic will be involved in this game.

Chelsea possible line-up: Arrizabalaga, Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Badiashile, Azpilicueta, Kovacic, Hall, Cucurella, Mount, Sterling, Mudryk

Fulham possible line-up: Leno, Soares, Diop, Ream, Robinson, Palhinha, Reed, Andreas Pereira, Decordova-Reid, Willian, Mitrovic
