Chelsea haven’t made the best of starts to their 2023-24 campaign, recording one win, a draw and a defeat from three Premier League games so far. The Blues secured their first victory of the season against Luton last time out thanks to Raheem Sterling’s brace and one goal from Nicolas Jackson. It was also their first competitive victory under new boss Maurico Pochettino who took charge of the team this summer. After a disappointing 12th place finish in the English top tier last season, the Londoners are hoping for a much better season under the Argentine tactician, who knows a a thing or two about English football, having coached Tottenham Hotspur between 2015 and 2019. Meanwhile, when it comes to the EFL Cup, the Blues have not been eliminated in the second round since the1995-96 edition.
AFC Wimbledon, on the other hand, have made an unbeaten start to the new campaign, recording three wins and as many draws from six matches across all competitions so far. The Dons overcame second tier side Coventry in the first round of the League Cup on August 9. Johnie Jackson’s side fought back from a goal down to secure the victory thanks to Omar Bugiel’s 86th-minute equaliser and Ryan McLean’s dramatic winner two minutes into the injury time. Meanwhile, Wimbledon shared the spoils against Forest Green in the fourth tier last time out despite taking the lead through James Ball’s 35th-minute opener.
