Celta Vigo will kickoff their preparations for the 2023-24 campaign with a pre-season friendly against Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr on Monday night. The Sky Blues finished 13th in the 2022-23 La Liga standings, having taken 43 points from 38 games, just three points clear of the relegation zone. Al-Nassr, on the other hand, secured a second-place finish in the Saudi Pro League with 67 points to their name from 30 matches, five points adrift of the champions Al-Ittihad.

Celta secured a 2-1 win over champions Barcelona in their final fixture of the 2022-23 La Liga season and the victory proved to be a crucial one as they managed to escape relegation by just three points. Meanwhile, the club has appointed Rafa Benitez as their new head coach, replacing Carlos Carvalhal at the helm, and the Spaniard will be bidding to improve on last season’s bottom-half finish in the Spanish top flight. The Sky Blues have already made two signings this summer, bringing in Carles Perez on a permanent basis from Roma, while Manu Sanchez has joined on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club will also play Benfica and Lyon as part of their pre-season preparations later this month, before starting their 2023-24 La Liga season at home to Osasuna on August 13.

Al-Nassr, on the other hand, won three of their final four league-games of last season, but it was not enough for them to land the title, ultimately finishing second in the table. Nevertheless, Faris Najd have a new manager in place, with Luis Castro replacing the dismissed Rudi Garcia. The 61-year-old tactician has number of world class players at his disposal and he will be expected to guide them to title-triumphs. Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has moved to Al -Nassr to join Cristian Ronaldo, who arrived in January, and there are expected to be more incomings.
