The reverse fixture was almost six months ago at the John Smith’s Stadium and the match ended 1-0 in favour of Burnley courtesy of full-back Ian Maatsen’s 18th-minute effort.
Burnley will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of EFL Championship standings, when they host relegation-battlers Huddersfield Town on Saturday. The hosts were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw away to Millwall in their last outing on Tuesday night, while Huddersfield are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 win against Birmingham City last Saturday. Despite dropping points, the Clarets are comfortably sitting at the summit of the standings, having collected a whopping 73 points from 33 games, 12 clear of the chasing pack. The visitors, meanwhile, have a game in hand, and are languishing at the 22st position, with just 31 points to their name, four adrift of safety.

It is fair to say that Burnley have not been at their best in the last three outings, having taken five points from a possible nine, which isn’t very great considering the high standards set up by Vincent Kompany’s side. However, the Clarets are on a 13-game unbeaten run in the second tier. Last time out, Kompany’s side shared the spoils against Millwall, despite taking the lead through Ashley Barnes’ 51st-minute effort. Prior to that, the Clarets edged past Luton Town, thanks to Barnes’ lone goal from the penalty spot in the 78th-minute. It was their 21st league-win of the season, which is three more than their nearest challengers Sheffield United.
Huddersfield, on the other hand, came from behind to beat Birmingham in their last outing. Joseph Hugbp canceled out Troy Deeney’s early opener, before Jaheim Headley’s 49th-minute effort proved to be the winner at John Smith’s Stadium. It was their eighth Championship-win of the season. Meanwhile, the result ended an eight-match winless streak in all competition for the Terriers. With some in-form teams next on their schedule, new manager Neil Warnick has a tough task in hand.
The reverse fixture was almost six months ago at the John Smith’s Stadium and the match ended 1-0 in favour of Burnley, courtesy of full-back Ian Maatsen’s 18th-minute effort. It was the Clarets’ 17th win against Huddersfield in 31 clashes. Meanwhile, the Terriers have prevailed just 10 times and four encounters ended in draws.
