Brighton went into Saturday’s fixture at Stamford Bridge on the back of successive wins over Nottingham Forest and AEK Athens in the Premier League and Europa League respectively. The Seagulls secured a narrow 1-0 victory over AEK Athens on November 30 thanks to Joao Pedro’s 55th-minute spot kick and the result sealed their place in the knockout stage of Europe’s second tier club competition. However, two days later, Roberto de Zerbi’s side’s seven game unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end away to the Blues despite the fact that Facundo Buonanotte and Pedro got on the scoresheet. It was their fourth league defeat of the campaign, while De Zerbi’s men have recorded six top flight victories this term. A run of three successive home game is up next for Brighton, with an important Europa League clash against group leaders Marseille taking place after back-to-back Premier League encounters with the Bees and Burnley.
Brenftord, on the other hand, secured their fifth league win of the season against Luton on Saturday thanks to second-half efforts from Neal Maupay, Ben Mee and Shandon Baptiste. the Bees have now won four and lost two of their last six outings, scoring 11 goals and keeping two clean sheets in the process. Meanwhile, their two recent defeats came against Liverpool and leaders Arsenal either side of the international break. Having taken 19 points from a possible 14 league games, Brenftord are now level on points with tenth placed Chelsea, and just five adrift of the European positions. Although Brentford have won only one of their last five Premier League fixtures against Brighton, the 3-3 draw at the Falmer Stadiuem last season should provide them confidence of claiming away points on Wednesday.
