Brentford lost out to Everton last time out despite the fact that Mathias Jensen canceled out Abdoulaye Doucoure’s 6th-minute opener. The Toffees came out all guns blazing in the second-half and netted twice through James Tarkowski and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and thereby handed the Bees their second successive defeat, and extended their winless run to three games in the league. As of now, Frank’s side are occupying 13th spot in the English top flight standings, having collected six points from as many games. Their last victory came against Newport in the second round of the EFL Cup towards the end of last month. Although, the Bees fell to Gillingham in the third round clash last term, they have reached the EFL Cup quarters in 2022, and played the historic semi-final in 2021, losing to Tottenham.
Arsenal, on the other hand, couldn’t get past Brighton & Hove Albion in their third round clash of the EFL Cup last season, and they will be bidding to go further this time around. Prior to the last season, the Gunners made the quarters in six successive editions between 2016 and 2021. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side have made a stunning start to the 2023-24 campaign, recording six wins and two draws from eight games across all competitions, including an FA Community Shield triumph over Manchester City. Although, the Gunners have been in red hot form, they were forced to share the spoils against Spurs in the North London derby last time out. Arteta’s side opened the scoring through Cristian Romero’s 26th-minute own goal, before Son Heung-min equalised three minutes from the break. After the restart, Bukayo Saka restored the Gunners’ lead through a 54th-minute penalty-kick, but Son completed his brace a minute later to make the score 2-2.
