Brighton & Hove Albion supporters were treated to an exciting summer signing for the upcoming season. The English outfit which performed well above expectations in the 2022-23 campaign, has agreed to sign midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud. The Syrian-German player will complete his move to the Premier League side when his contract with this Bundesliga season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund expires.

When will Mahmoud Dahoud join Brighton?

The 27-year-old midfielder will join Brighton on a four-year contract on July 1, which will last till June 2027. With Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister leaving the club for Liverpool this summer, there is a void left to be filled in that position this window. It is yet unclear if Mahmoud Dahoud is a direct replacement for the departing World Cup winning midfielder. Dahoud is quite experienced in Bundesliga, but it will be interesting to see if he can transform that form into the Premier League.

Dahoud made his Bundesliga debut in 2014 with Borussia Moenchengladbach. He played an important role with the club and even helped them secure an unlikely Champions League finish. However, he switched to Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Even though he was an important part of the team’s set-up, his game time with the side reduced this season. It was due to the surgery he had on his shoulder last summer.

Roberto De Zerbi on Mahmoud Dahoud

Either way, he made a respectable 141 appearances for the club during his time in Germany. It will now be interesting to see how long it takes for Mahmoud Dahoud in getting used to the demands of the Premier League. Referring to his transfer, Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi expressed his happiness to get the midfielder on board. “I’m excited to have Mahmoud in my team. I wanted him when I was at Sassuolo and I’m sure he is going to be a top player for us,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

Speaking about Dahoud, Brighton & Hove Albion’s technical director David Weir said, “We’re delighted to bring Mahmoud to the club, his quality and ability will really add to the options available to Roberto. He’s a quality player, he’s got lots of experience playing at a high level in Germany with great experience in Europe too. We’re looking forward to working with Mahmoud when pre-season starts next month and to seeing him in action in the Summer Series in the United States in July.”
