Bouremouth will host French club Lorient in a pre-season friendly at Vitality Stadium on Saturday. This will be the club’s final warm-up fixture of the summer as they begin their league seasons next weekend. Bournemouth began their pre-season with a dominant 4-0 win over Hibernian on July 13, before ending their Spanish training camp with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Cherries returned to winning ways in a 3-2 success over Southampton on the South Coast, but their win-loss sequence continued when Atalanta visited the King’s Park on July 29. Andoni Iraola’s side conceded two goals inside the opening 36 minutes before Marcos Senesi pulled one back for the premier League club six minutes from the break, but Emmanuel Latte Lath’s 86th-minute effort restored the Serie A side’s two-goal cushion and sealed their victory. Meanwhile, Bournemouth will open their English top flight season at home to West Ham United next weekend.
Lorient, on the other hand, have been unbeaten in their pre-season so far, recording two wins and as many defeats from four friendlies this summer. Les Merlus started their preparations for the new season with back-to-back draws against Concarneau and Guingamp, before recording successive wins against the likes of Le Havre and Nantes. On Tuesday, the Dark Orange and Black got the better of their Ligue 1 compatriot courtesy of Bamba Dieng’s nineth-minute opener and second-half efforts from Pablo Pagis and Darlin Yongwa. Regis Le Bris will be bidding to finish their pre-season with a positive result before beginning their French top flight campaign against champions Paris Saint-Germain on August 12.
