Brentford, had an impressive Premier League season last term, finishing ninth in the standings courtesy of collecting 59 points from 38 games. The Bees secured a narrow 1-0 win over champions Manchester City in their final league-fixture of last season. However, Thomas Frank’s side are winless in their pre-season this summer, recording two draws and as many defeats from four friendlies. Following back-to-back defeats against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion, the Bees played out a six-goal draw against Villa at FedEX Field, thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Josh Dasilva and Shandon Baptiste. They will be hoping to end their pre-season with a victory and build on that success when they host Tottenham Hotspur in their league-opener next Sunday.
Lille, on the other hand, finished fifth in the Ligue 1 last term and have qualified for the Europa Conference League qualification round. Les Dogues started their pre-season with the successive wins against the likes of Dunkerque, Cercle Brugge KSV and Ke Havre, but lost out to Serie A side Empoli last time out. Les Nordistes suffered their first pre-season defeat of the summer against the Blues on Saturday despite the fact that Remy Cabella got on the scoresheet. Meanwhile, Paulo Fonseca’s side will soon learn their Europa Conference League playoff opponents before beginning Ligue 1 duties against Nice on August 11.
