Belarus will host Slovakia in the UEFA Nations League fixture at the Karadorde Stadium on Friday night. It will be their opening group fixture. Both teams have been drawn in Group 3 along with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. With only  one spot available, each game would be important for the teams. Belarus have won seven of 12 Nations League games to date, missing out on back-to-back promotions by one point in 2020. As for Slovakia, after suffering a surprise relegation in 2020, the Falcons are aiming to make a return to League B.

Belarus head into the match on the back of some impressive results, having defeated India and Bahrain in friendly matches in March. They managed to keep clean sheets in both the games in Bahrain. Meanwhile the white Wings are winless in seven consecutive games, in which they shipped 22 goals. In 2020, Belarus missed the promotion to League B of the Nations League by a point, following a 3-2 loss to Albania in the final game.  And then, Gregor Kondratiev’s side had to endure a tough World Cup qualifying campaign, picking up just three points from eight games.

As for Slovakia, they have lost just once in their last five games across all competitions. The Falcons secured a 2-0 win against Finland in their previous match in March, courtesy of goals from Ondrej Duda and Erik Jirka. Two years ago, Slovakia finished rock bottom of their Nations League group, registering just one win against Scotland. The Falcons have qualified for both of the last two European Championships. Stefan Tarkovic’s side would head into the tie as the favourites.

Probable Lineups

Belarus boss Georgy Kondratyev has picked a 21-member team for the four upcoming Nations League games. Of the initial squad, Oleksandr Selyava has been replaced with Yegor Bogomolsky in the final team that will travel to Serbia on account of injury. As for Slovakia, Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar will captain the team. The centre-back has 53 international caps to his name. He will partner Peter Pekarik in the heart of the defence. Juraj Kucka is likely to pull the strings in the midfield while Ondrej Duda would be the target-man up front.

Belarus probable starting lineup: Pavlyuchenko, Shvyatsow, Yudenkov, Palyakow, Pyachenin, Selyava, Yablonsky, Ebong, Bakhar, Sedko, Solovey.

Slovakia probable starting lineup: Rodak, Pekarik, Hancko, Skriniar, Valjent, Lobotka, Kucka, Duda, Hrosovsky, Rusnak, Weiss.
