Bayern secured their 20th league-win of the season against Schalke last Saturday thanks to Serge Gnabry’s brace and one goal each from Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich, Mathys Tela and Noussair Mazraoui. It was their third consecutive victory, scoring ten goals and conceding only one in the process. Since Thomas Tuchel’s side have been eliminated from the Champions League and DFB-Pokal, they are left with only the Bundesliga to concentrate on. With two games remaining, the Bavarians are sitting just a solitary point clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund. After the game against Leipzig, Bayern will end their campaign away to FC Koln.
Leipzig on the other hand, came from behind to beat Werder Bremen last Saturday, thanks to Will Orban’s 87th-minute equaliser and Dominik Szoboszlai’s dramatic winner five minutes into the injury time. It was the Red Bulls’ 18th top flight victory of the season and the result helped Die Roten Bullen to maintain their slender one-point lead over fourth-placed Union Berlin. Meanwhile, Marco Rose’s side have won three of their last four away-games, while scoring seven times and conceding only once during those triumphs. Set to face Schalke on the final day, Leipzig are sure to finish no lower than fifth, which guarantees at least a Europa League place.
