Barcelona will be looking to seal their place in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League when they play host to FC Porto in a Group H fixture at Estadio Olimpic Lluis Companys on Tuesday night. The reverse fixture between these two sides at Estadio do Dragao last month ended 1-0 in favour of Blaugrana thanks to Ferran Torres’ effort on the stroke of half-time. Both sides have taken nine points from their three group games, and the hosts are sitting at the summit of the standings courtesy of a superior head-to-head record, while the Dragons are three points clear of third-placed Shakhtar Donetsk.

Barcelona are going through bit of a rough patch, having recorded two wins, two defeats and one draw from their last five outings across all competitions. Blaugrana had a chance to seal their place in the last-16 stage of the Champions League with two games to spare had they overcome Shakhtar on November 7, but Xavi’s men lost 1-0. Although, the Catalan outfit quickly bounced back with a 2-1 league-win over Alaves four days later, they were forced to share the spoils away to Ryo Vallecano on their return to action following the international break on Saturday. Xavi’s men came from behind to earn a draw at Estadio de Vallecas thanks to Florijan Lejeune’s 82nd-minute own goal. The reigning La Liga champions are currently occupying fourth spot in the Spanish top flight standings, with 31 points to their name from 14 matches, four adrift of leaders Real Madrid.
Porto have also been in strong form in Group H, winning three of their four games so far. The Dragons defeated Antwerp 2-0 in their last Champions League match earlier this month and then followed it up with back-to-back win over Vitoria Guimaraes and CDC Montalegre in the Portuguese Pirmeira Liga and Taca da Liga respectively. Sergio Conceicao’s side put fur goals past Montalegre at the weekend thanks to Danny Loader’s early opener, Evanlison’s first-half brace and Fran Navarro’s effort on the hour-mark. Meanwhile, when it comes to the Portuguese top flight, Conceicao’s side are currently occupying third spot in the standings, having collected 25 points from 11 games.
