Barcelona will host Bayern Munich in a UEFA Champions League fixture at Camp Nou on Wednesday. The Catalan club desperately needs to earn three points against the Bavarians to keep their chances of qualification to the round of 16 alive. The hosts are currently occupying third spot in Group F, having collected four points from as many games, while Bayern are sitting at the top with 12 points to their name. Barcelona are heading into the match on the back of a thumping 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in a La Liga fixture on Sunday. The visitors, meanwhile, got the better of Hoffenheim 2-0 in a Bundesliga match, a day earlier.

It has been a below par Champions League group stage campaign for Barcelona thus far. Xavi’s side started off by thrashing Viktoria Plzen 5-1, but then suffered back-to-back defeats against Bayern (2-0) and Inter Milan (1-0), on the road. And then, in the reverse fixture against Inter on October 12, Blaugrana played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring before Robert Lewandowski netted a late-double to earn a point. After theat, Barcelona recorded dominant wins against Villareal (3-0) and Athletic Bilbao in the domestic league fixtures. Against Bilbao, Xavi’s side netted four times without reply. Dembele, Sergio Rpberto, Lewandowski and Ferran Torres netted for the Blaugrana to register their ninth win in 11 league games of the season.

Bayern, on the other hand, are also sitting at the second position in the Bundesliga standings, having collected 22 points from 11 games, just one point adrift of leaders Union Berlin.  Last time out, the Bavarians beat Hoffenheim courtesy of first-half goals from Jamal Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Meanwhile, in the continental competition, Julian Naglesmann’s side have been in stunning form, having won all of their four games thus far to seal progression to the round of 16, with two games to spare.
