Atlanta suffered their fifth league-defeat of the season against New York Red Bulls last time out courtesy of first-half efforts from Daniel Edelman and Cristian Casseres Jr, and Fankie Amaya’s second-half brace. The result ended their seven-game unbeaten run in the MLS, recording five draws in the process. The Five Stripes have won seven top flight games this term and their last success came against DC United (3-1) on June 10 thanks to goals from Giorgos Giakoumakis, Andrew Gutman and Tyler Wolff. Meanwhile, Gonzalo Pineda’s men have taken 21 points from their ten MLS-games at Mercedes-Benz Arena this term.
Philadelphia, on the other hand, returned to wining ways in style as they demolished a struggling Inter Miami at Subaru Park last Sunday. The Union Zolos scored three goals in the first half through Jakob Glesnes, Julian Carranza and Leon Flach. Although Robert Taylor pulled one back for the Herons early in the second half, a 68th-minute own goal by David Luiz restored Philadelphia’s three-goal deficit. It was their 10th MLS-win of the season. Jim Curtin’s men have now won six of their last ten games, while losing just two matches in the period. Meanwhile, Philadelphia have not tasted defeat in their last six clashes against Atlanta in all competitions, while recording three wins in the process.
Atlanta United probable starting lineup: Guzan, Lennon, Abram, Purata, Gutman, Rossetto, Ibarra, Wolff, Almada, Wiley, Giakoumakis
Philadelphia Union probable starting lineup: Bendik, Mbaizo, Glesnes, Elliott, Wagner, Martinez, Bedoya, Flach, Gazdag, Carranza, Uhre
