Valencia will be bidding to secure back-to-back La Liga wins when they travel to San Mames to take on Athletic Bilbao on Sunday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Barcelona last weekend, while Los Che got the better of Cadiz 2-0 last time out. The Basque outfit are currently occupying sixth spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 17 points from their first ten league games, while the visitors are sitting three places behind them, separated by three points.

Athletic suffered only their third league defeat of the season against Barcelona last Sunday courtesy of Marc Guiu’s lone goal ten minutes from time. The Lions managed to frustrate the reigning champions in front of their own supporters, but Ernesto Valverde’s side would consider themselves unlucky not to have taken anything from Estadio Olympic Lluis Companys. Nevertheless, Lions still have five league wins to their name and are trailing the top four by just five points. Their last success came against Almeria at San Mames before the international break, thanks to three unanswered goals from Gorka Guruzeta, Dani Garcia and Oihan Sancet. Athletic Club will be pleased to be back on home soil this weekend, as they have won three and drawn one of their last four matches in front of their own supporters.
Valencia, on the other hand, ended their four game winless run last weekend against Cadiz at Mestalla thanks to first-half efforts from Jose Gaya and Hugo Duro. It was Ruben Baraja’s side’s fourth top flight victory of the season and they have now taken eight points from their last six outings. Los Che finished 16th in La Liga last season, and they are far from the outfit that were regulars in the top four not too long ago, and their main focus this season would be to push into the top half.

Valencia probable starting lineup: Mamardashvili, Correia, Mosquera, Paulista, Gaya, Pepelu, Guerra, Perez, D Lopez, Amallah, Duro
