Arsenal will hope to continue their recent good run of form when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Emirates Stadium for a Premier League contest. The Gunners are in fine form and are currently edging out Manchester City to sit at the top of the league table. They have also taken this form into Europe and have done well in the Champions League. With a tricky Wolves side set to visit Emirates, it would be important for the Gunners to maintain their good form of late.
Ahead of the important Premier League fixture, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was asked what kind of challenge he anticipates seeing against Wolves. “They have a lot of quality. It’s not a coincidence, what they are doing. They perform really well, especially against the top sides. That speaks highly about the quality of the coaching staff – what Gary is doing, the way they prepare and control opponents, especially when they play at home. We’re going to have to try to break them down tomorrow,” Arteta, quoted on Arsenal.com, said ahead of the match.
The manager was then asked how to approach games against teams that set up defensively. He replied, “Giving players tools, ideas and understanding what we have to do with the game we have to play. As I mentioned before, it’s about the efficiency in the last part of the park that dictates the outcome of the game. The other night, we were very efficient in that.”
Since Arsenal are also in the Champions League, most weeks they have to play three games a week. Speaking about that challenge, Arteta said, “That’s the beauty of it. We wanted to be in that position. We are playing in big games every three days and the squad is ready. The players are hungry to play every single game. They are disappointed when we have to rest them to manage minutes. That’s a really good sign.”
When asked about having the squad depth needed to compete in the Premier League and Champions League, the Gunners’ manager said, “Time will tell. We have another big one to play against Wolves, a very difficult team to play against. They have shown against the top teams what they are capable of. Our preparation has been focussed on understanding what we have to do to win the game.”
One of the noticeable additions to the Arsenal squad in the summer window is Kai Havertz from Chelsea. The German initially took time to settle in, however, he seems to be finding his form in recent games by scoring important goals for the Gunners. “First of all support him, like with any other player, and give him the tools and the time to show his qualities. I think that’s what he’s doing. Everything is starting to come together. A lot of the things he was doing right, he’s continued to do and now obviously in front of goal, he’s being very efficient,” he added.
