Arsenal recorded their 25th league-win of the season against the Magpies at St. James’s Park last time out thanks to Martin Odegaard’s 14th-minute effort and an own goal by Fabian Schar twenty minutes from time. It was their second consecutive victory following a four-game winless run. Arteta’s side were sitting at the summit of the standings for a large part of the campaign, but having taken just seven points from their last seven outings, the Gunners allowed the reigning champions Man City to overtake them to the top of the table. Arsenal have the third-best home-record in the Premier League this season, having collected 42 points from 17 matches at Emirates Stadium so far. Meanwhile, Arteta’s side secured a 4-2 win over the Seagulls in the reverse fixture at Falmer Stadium in December last year.
Brighton, on the other hand, have the fourth best away-record in the English top flight this term, having taken 25 points from 16 games thus far. The Seagulls suffered a surprise loss to 18th-placed Everton last time out courtesy of Abdoulaye Doucoure’s first-half brace, Jason stele’s 35th-minute own goal and Dwight McNeil’s second-half double. Meanwhile, Brighton scored a consolation goal through Alexis MacAllister. Prior to that, the Seagulls won back-to-back games against Wolves and Manchester United, scoring seven goals and conceding none during the process.
