Switzerland aims to secure a perfect record in their initial three Euro 2024 qualification encounters as they confront Andorra in Group I on Friday evening. The A-Team has triumphed over Belarus and Israel in their first two matches, propelling them to the top of the standings. Conversely, Andorra has suffered a defeat against Romania and settled for a draw against Kosovo in their opening two fixtures. Switzerland’s intent is to continue their winning streak and solidify their dominant position in the group, while Andorra seeks to improve their fortunes by securing a victory or at least salvaging a point against their upcoming formidable opponents.
It would come as a great surprise if Andorra were to qualify for the finals of the next European Championship since they have never achieved such a feat in a major tournament. Their struggles are evident from having won only one match in European Championship qualifications. However, they will approach the upcoming game with some momentum following a 1-1 draw against Kosovo on March 28. Their campaign began with a 2-0 home defeat against Romania. Barring any extraordinary turn of events, Andorra is unlikely to participate in Euro 2024. However, they can make progress and achieving a record number of points in the qualification stage would be a significant achievement.
Switzerland, however, aims to secure the top position in this group, and the A-Team has had a strong start, accumulating six points from their first two matches. Under the guidance of Murat Yakin, Switzerland delivered an impressive 5-0 victory over Belarus in their opening group game on March 25. They followed it up with a 3-0 win against Israel just three days later, further solidifying their position. Next, Switzerland will face consecutive fixtures against Andorra and Romania. If they manage to secure two more victories, they will find themselves in an excellent position before their next match against Kosovo in September. Notably, the Swiss national team, known as Nati, achieved their best-ever performance in the European Championships by reaching the quarter-finals in Euro 2020. This success followed their round of 16 appearance in Euro 2016.
