The AFC Champions League match between Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad will take place at Kingdom Arena on Tuesday at 11:30 pm IST.
Saudi teams Al-Hilal and Al Ittihad will kick off their quarter-final match in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. Al-Hilal, currently leading the Saudi Pro League, beat Sepahan 6-2 overall in the round of 16. Al Ittihad, the former Pro League champions, won their second-leg match against Navbahor 2-1, advancing to the next round with the same score.
Jorge Jesus’ team has been dominating both domestically and in the tournament, winning their knockout matches 3-1 each. Al Za’eem has won an impressive 27 consecutive matches, including league games, Champions League matches, friendlies, and King Cup of Champions fixtures. They’re comfortably leading the Saudi top flight by nine points after 22 matches and aiming to win both the league and the Champions League in the same season, last achieved in 2020-21. Al-Hilal has a strong history in the Champions League quarter-finals, advancing each time and not being eliminated since 2011-12. They’re one of the few teams in the tournament yet to lose a Champions League game this season. They’ve also won seven matches in a row against Al Ittihad, including a recent league win of 3-1.
Al Ittihad faced an early setback in their last match when they scored an own goal, but they turned things around with another own goal helping them win. This will be their first time in the Champions League quarter-finals since 2018-19, and they haven’t gone beyond this stage since 2011-12. Their only loss in this tournament this season came in an away game during the group stage. They haven’t lost the first leg of a knockout tie since 2014. Despite starting strong defensively last month, they’ve now conceded goals in their last three games. They’re currently fifth in the Saudi Pro League, far behind Al-Hilal, making it unlikely for them to defend their league title.
