ATK Mohun Bagan will take on Maziya Sports and Recreation Club of Maldives in Matchday 2 in Group D at the National Sport Stadium in Male on Saturday. The Kolkata based team will be looking for their second straight win in as many games after beating Bengaluru FC 2-0 in the previous game. Meanwhil,e the Maldivian club lost to Bangladesh’s Bashundhara FC on Wednesday. The top two teams from the group will qualify for the Inter-Zone semifinals.

The Indian club displayed a very professional performance against the fellow ISL side as they were clinical up front and their defence solidity kept the Blues’ attack in check. Captain Roy Krishna opened the scoring for the Mariners in the first half as Subhasish Bose provided the assist. And then after the break, provider turned into goal scorer as Bose slotted the ball in the back of the net.

ATK Mohun Bagan’s new signings Amrinder Singh, Deepak Tangiri and Hugo Boumous all started on Wednesday. Former Indian Arrows and Chennaiyin FC player Tangiri was never shy of putting his body on the line and didn’t allow the Bengaluru FC midfielders to settle in. Besides, goalkeeper Amrider Singh and Boumous also had good outings, while Singh kept the clean sheet the Spanish attacking midfielder showed his class, dribbling past players with ease and delivering long range passes to cut open the opposition defence.

The back three consisting of Pritam Kotal, McHugh and Sumit Rathi was solid even without Sandesh Jinghan who left them to join Croatian top tier club HNK Sibenik.

On the other hand, it is a must win game for Maziya Sports & Recreation after losing their opening game. The Maldivian club has a strong record against Indian clubs as they showed the exit door to ISL 2018-19 champions Bengaluru FC in the play-off stage last year. And before that they also had good results against Mohun Bagan AC before the latter joined with ATK to become ATK Mohun Bagan.

The Maldivian club boast some solid names particularly winger Cornelius Stewart, who was their top scorer last season with 11 goals in the Dhivehi Premier League in Maldives and midfielder Hamza Mohamed.

However, Antonio Habas’ side looks like the stronger team on paper and with the likes of Roy Krishna, Dee Williams and McHugh they should be able to get the better of the home side.
