Milan’s sole defeat this season came against arch rivals Inter Milan in the derby midway-through September. However, since then, Rossoneri have gone from strength-to-strength, recording four wins and two draws from their last six matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals and keeping five clean sheets in the period. Stefano Pioli’s side secured all three points against Genoa in the top flight last time out thanks to Christian Pulisic’s lone goal three minutes from time. But the game at Luigi Ferraris produced quite a bit of drama in the stoppage time as both the goalkeepers were sent off, and Milan striker Olivier Giroud ended the game between the posts, wearing Mike Maignan’s jersey. The veteran Frenchman gained plaudits for bravely making an important save at the death, and Pioli’s men secured their seventh league-win of the season.
Juventus, on the other hand, secured a fairly comfortable victory over Torino before the international break. The Old Lady scored twice in the second half through Federico Gatti and Arkadiusz Milik. Massimiliano Alegri’s men dominated the proceedings at Allianz Stadium, attempting 17 shots with six of them on target, compared to just a solitary effort on goal by the Maroons. Moreover, it was also their third successive clean sheet, taking their tally to no less than eight in 13 top flight matches stretching back to last season. Juve have already beaten Lazio and held Atalanta, but Sunday’s fixture will be their toughest test of the season so far.
