Tottenham are ready to submit an official proposal to sign the defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina with an option to buy for 16 million euro. The 25-year-old has been with Fiorentina since 2020 and enjoyed a promising first season with the Serie A club. However, he has struggled for game time this season and has been limited to just 12 appearances across all competitions. Amrabat, who is with Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations is Antonio Conte’s preferred option in that position.

Amrabat played a pivotal role in Morocco’s round of 16 match against Malawi on Tuesday, as he played the entire 90 minutes as the Atlas Lions won the game 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals. Tottenham have been in talks with Fiorentina since Sunday but they need to offload Tanguy Ndombele, who is wanted by Paris-Saint Germain, or Dele Alli, who is an option for Newcastle, if they are to land Amrabat.

The 25-year-old, born in the Netherlands, has previously played for Utrecht, Feyenoord, Club Brugge and Verona. He is a decent passer of the ball, is a good dribbler and can advance forward with the ball. He also has a very good footballing brain and can read the game pretty well.

Although Amrabat’s stats aren’t very great, he is a solid player who gets the job done with minimal fuss. Conte is well acquainted with Italian football and the coach would have seen something in the Moroccan.

With the January transfer window coming to an end, Spurs now face  a race against time to bring in players. The midfielder could be the Lilywhites’ first signing this month.

Arthur Cabral to join Fiorentina

Fiorentina have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Arthur Cabral from Basel for 14.5 million euro plus 2 million euro add-ons. The Brazilian will replace Dusan Vlahovic, who is set to join Juventus. Sky Sport Italia reports the 23-year-old is on the verge of moving to the Stadio Artemio franchi after Fiorentina and Basel reached an agreement over his transfer fee.

Cabral’s current contract with Basel only runs to June 2023 and he is ready for the next step up in his career. He made the move from Palmeiras in 2019, initially on loan and then on a permanent basis for a total 7 million euro fee.
