Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte was delighted with his side’s performance in the 3-1 Premier League win over Leicester City on Sunday. Spurs opened the scoring through Harry Kane’s header before Son Heung-min netted a second-half double to secure all three points and put pressure on Arsenal, who defeated West Ham 2-1, later on the day to stay at the fourth spot. Meanwhile it was a vital victory for Spurs after they had earned just one point from their previous two games, losing 1-0 to Brighton before playing out a goalless draw against Brentford. Spurs will travel to Liverpool next week before hosting Arsenal on May 13.

Said to my players to live this moment: Conte

“It was a good performance against a really good team,” Conte said. “The game wasn’t easy, and we knew very well that despite them making eight changes from the last game against Roma you can see the quality, you can see the squad that Leicester has. I think then we deserved to win the game. For sure we got three points in an important moment of the season, especially because in the next games we are going to face first Liverpool and then Arsenal. Today it was vital to get three points. There is only one result and a lot of pressure, but I said to my players to live this moment, to enjoy this moment because we deserved it after really great work that we did in these six months.”

Conte has turned Spurs into a top-four contender

When Conte took charge of the team in November, they were languishing at the mid-table. The Italian tactician has done an impressive job to make them a top-four contender. With four matches to spare, spurs are just two points adrift of the final Champions League spot. Conte added “I think no one at the start of the season could imagine Tottenham challenging for a place in the Champions League, especially in November when there was a change, and for this reason we have to be satisfied that we stay in this position to fight for a big achievement.”

Son’s brilliant performance

Son was the star performer of the day as he provided the assist for Kane’s opener before scoring the brace. Kane put the hosts ahead on 25 minutes when he headed home from Son’s corner. On the hour-mark, substitute Dejan Kulusevski played a nice little through ball for son to slot home before unleashing a beautiful left-footed curler from outside the box to complete his brace and take his tally to 19 for the season. “I gave him a big hug because after an amazing goal my question was which is his favourite foot, right or left?” Conte said. He scored a fantastic goal and three minutes before when I spoke with him I said, ‘Go for five or six minutes and then I have to make a change’. I said to him that when you listened that I wanted to make a change and you decide to score this amazing goal.”
