Tottenham Hotspur defeated Leicester City 3-1 in the Premier League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday. Harry Kane’s first half header and Son Heung-min’s double helped Spurs take all three points and move back to the top four, at least for time being as Arsenal will take on West Ham United later on the day. Kane opened the scoring mid-way through the first half, before Son doubled the lead on the hour-mark and then few moments later the South Korean netted his second of the night. Meanwhile the visitors scored a consolation goal through Kelechi Iheancho in the injury time. Antonio Conte’s side came into the match with a defeat against Brighton and a goalless draw to Brentford.

Harry Kane opener

Leicester started the brighter of the two sides and almost took an early lead when Patson Daka’s effort was pushed on to the post by Hugo Lloris. However, moments later, the hosts put their nose in front, when Kane headed home from Son’s corner on 22 minutes. Nampalys Mendy almost gifted Kane his second 10 minutes later with a sloppy backpass that forced Kasper Schmeichel into action. At the other end, Iheanacho fired just wide of the post from outside the box before a delightful piece of skill from Ayoze Perez set up another chance for Leicester, with his shot just alluded the Nigerian’s dive.

Dejan Kulusevski’s impact off the bench

To the surprise of everyone, Kulusevski started on the bench and Lucas Moura’s name was in the starting eleven. But the Brazilian failed to make an impression in the first half and Kulusevski was introduced in his place, just ten minutes into the second half.  The Swedish international’s arrival proved effective as he provided the assist for Son’s first goal of the night. Central defender Christian Romero made two crunching tackles in the build up before Kulusevski played a perfect pass for Son to slot home past Schmeichel into the back of the net. It was the 29-year-old’s 19th goal of the season and he has moved to second spot behind Mohamed Salah in the Premier League top-scorers list this term.

Son completes his brace

Son completed his brace on 79 minutes. Kulusevski rolled the ball back for Son on the edge of the box and the South Korean unleashed a superb curler that dipped just below the crossbar and made the score 3-0. Iheanaco beat Lloris at the near post to grab a consolation goal but the hosts managed to see out the remaining minutes and secure the win. Son dismissed talk of him winning the Golden Boot but had clearly enjoyed his second goal. “I was happy to score that really beautiful goal. When I hit it I could see the way the ball flied and I was happy to score that. But I’m more happy to play well and get the three points,” Son said.
