Rangers are close to signing Manchester United winger Amad Diallo on loan for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old is in Scotland to undergo a medical ahead of signing for the Broadway Blueshirts on a six-month loan deal. The Ivorian footballer joined Manchester United from Atalanta in a deal worth GBP 3.7 million last year but has made just nine appearances in all competitions. He was due to join Feyenoord on a season-long loan back in September but because of an injury he picked up during training, the move didn’t happen.

The Red Devils believe this move will be good for his development, with Diallo understood to be part of United’s long-term plans. The Premier League club were keen for him to stay in the UK rather than go abroad and hope a move to Rangers can give him enough game-time to grow. Rangers are currently top of the Scottish Premier League and will face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League fixture next month.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is pushing for silverware in his first season in charge as his side has 55 points from 22 games, four points above second-placed Celtic. Diallo ‘s arrival could prove to be a useful addition to the Ibrox club as his skill and pace will be a handful for them.

This season, Diallo played 68 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the Champions League group stage encounter and was an unused sub in the 3-2 win against Arsenal in the Premier League. His contract with the Red Devils runs until 2025.

Diallo was born in Ivory Coast before moving to Italy at the age of 10, joining Atalanta in 2015. The talented youngster made his debut for Atalanta in 2019, becoming the youngest player, at 17 years and 109 days old, to score on his Serie A debut in their 7-1 trashing of Udinese.
