Tottenham’s new signing Dejan Kulusevski says he “wants to be happy on and off the pitch” and insists it’s not easy to adapt to the Premier League. The 21-year-old spoke to Sky Sport italia after Tottenham’s 3-2 loss to Southampton in the mid-week league fixture. He had joined Spurs on an 18-month loan deal with a EUR 35 million option to buy from Juventus. The Swedish footballer explained the difference between Serie A and Premier League and discussed Spurs boss Antonio Conte’s reaction after his first home defeat in the league games in the last 16 months.

“He was really upset, like each one of us,” admitted Kulusevski.

“Tottenham target is to get in the top four. It’s hard, but we must believe and not lose games like yesterday. I believe in it. There is an excellent team here.”

Kulusevski was born in Stockholm and represents Sweden at the international level. He came through the Atalanta academy set-up after moving to Italy as a 16-year-old and later rose to limelight during his two loan spells with Parma, once from Atalanta and again after Paratici took him to Juventus in 2019.

The 21-year-old scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in 39 games for Parma and added another seven goals and seven assists in his first campaign for Juve last year. Conte was reportedly interested in signing the youngster when he was with Inter Milan.

What’s the first thing that Conte told Kulusevski?

“The very first thing was welcome,” he said smiling.

“Then he said that he expects me to help him, especially in attack. He didn’t ask for anything special. I just need to work and look at what the others do to play regularly.

“It’s not easy to switch from Italy to England,” the former Parma and Atalanta starlet continued.

“I want to be happy on and off the pitch. If I am happy on the pitch, the rest will happen as a consequence.”

Totteham are currently placed seventh in the points table with 36 points from 21 games, four points adrift fourth-placed West Ham United, who have played three games more. Conte’s side will next face Wolves at home on Sunday.
