Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 9th Match of the IPL 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 6. While KKR lost their first game against Punjab Kings by 7 runs (DLS method), RCB had a stellar start as they beat Mumbai Indians in the campaign opener by 8 wickets.
Kolkata Knight Riders failed miserably in the match where Punjab Kings posted a huge total of 191-5 in their allotted 20 overs after putting into bat first. Shikhar Dhawan and Rajapaksa steadied the middle overs and their ability to score quickly helped them as well. Although Tim Southee picked up 2 wickets, he gave away 54 runs as well which proved too costly. While chasing, Venkatesh Iyer and Andre Russell tried their best but they eventually fell short and they lost the game.
On the other hand, RCB restricted MI to 171-7 in 20 overs. The courtesy of scoring this total was Tilak Varma’s 84* off 46. For RCB, Karn Sharma picked up 2/32 as well. While chasing, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis both smashed fifties and added 148 runs for the first wicket as well. They eventually reached the target in 16.2 overs as well. Now it will be interesting to see how they play against KKR.
Both teams have met 30 times so far where KKR won the games 16 times and the rest of the matches were won by RCB.
