The second match of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on April 1, Saturday. However, all 10 franchises will compete in a total of 70 league games for the coveted trophy which will be played across two months followed by the playoffs as well.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) will hope for a change in their fortune this season after a disappointing end to their campaign in the last season. The team had finished in the seventh position on the points table, which forced the management to restructure the entire set-up. And, veteran India batter Shikhar Dhawan will be seen leading a side, which has also a few world-class all-rounders as well.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) too had a poor outing in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the problems for them have increased heading into a brand new edition. With Shreyas Iyer ruled out due to a back injury, the biggest question KKR faced was to search for an ideal captain. However, they appointed Nitish Rana as their new captain and it will be interesting to see how he will lead the team which has international stars like Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine and to name a few.
So far, 30 matches have taken place between the two teams where Punjab Kings won only 10 and Kolkata Knight Riders won 20 games as well. The record clearly shows who has the upperhand.
