Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy and Saina Nehwal advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open Super 500 Badminton tournament on Thursday. Olympic bronze medalist Saina registered a sensational win against world number 9 He Bing Jiao in the  second round of the women’s singles category to reach the last eight, her first in a Super 500 event in over two and a half years. Sindhu, on the other hand, defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Ling and HS Prannoy got the better of Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen in the pre-quarterfinals.

Saina, a London Olympic bronze medalist won 21-19, 11-21, 21-17 against the fifth seeded Chinese shuttler. The 32-year-old from Hyderabad has been battling injuries and lack of form in the past few years, which forced her to skip the selection trials for the Commonwealth Games, in April. Meanwhile third seed Sindhu had to dig deep against the Vietnamese world number 59, and the scoreboard read 19-21, 21-19, 21-18. Prannoy, ranked world number 19, prevailed 21-14, 20-22, 18-21, in a second round match that lasted one hour and nine minutes.
