Treesa-Gayatri, who had reached the semifinals as reserves last year, scripted a stunning win over world no.9 Japanese opponents once again to book a place in the quarterfinals of the prestigious tournament. The youngsters played brilliantly to get the better of the former world no.1 duo of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota. In the first game, the Indian girls went into the mid-game interval with a 11-7 lead and then went on to maintain the tempo, moving to 15-9 before winning the first game with a healthy margin. The Indian duo started the second game aggressively, taking an 8-1 lead and then quickly made the score 19-12. But a lapse in concentration allowed the Japanese team to crawl their way back and make the score 20-20. Nevertheless, the World no.17 Indian pair managed to hold their nerve at 22-22, and then sealed the match with a stunning smash.
