Kidambi Srikanth joined compatriots Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy in the second round of the men’s singles after defeating Toma Junior Popov 19-21, 21-14, 21-5.
Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu crashed out in the first round of the All England Open Badminton championship in Birmingham on Wednesday. The former world champion and two-time olympic medalist lost to China’s Zhang Yi Man in straight games with a scoreline of 17-21, 11-21 in the 39-minute women’s singles contest. This is the third time the 27-year-old had lost her first round match this year. She had lost to Carolina Marin of Spain in Malatisa open in January before exiting the Indian Open at the same stage in the same month. Sindhu’s compatriot and London Olympics bronze-medalist Sain aNehwal withdrew from the tournament, meaning no Indian will be in the fray in women’s singles.
