Indian shuttler HS Pranoy advanced to the quarter-finals of Malaysia Open, courtesy of defeating Indonesia Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo on Thursday. The World no. 8 looked in fine touch as he got the better of the Indonesia shuttler with a scoreline of 21-9, 15-21, 21-16 in an hour and four minutes. The 30-year-old is the last Indian standing in singles at this Super 1000 tournament. The 30-year-old first overcame his compatriot Lakshya Sen 22-24, 21-12, 21-18 in a thrilling first round encounter this week, before defeating World no. 19 Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 21-19, 15-21 in the second round. Pranoy will face Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in the last-8 stage on Friday. 

Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Indonesia duo of Muhammad Shobibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana in the round of 16 match on Thursday. The Indian duo emerged victorious with a scoreline of 21-19, 22-20. Satwik and Chirag will take on the Chinese pair of Y. C. Liu and X. Y. Ou on Friday for a place in the semi-finals.  Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Threesa Joly and Gayathri Gopichand fought hard before going down 13-21, 21-15, 17-21 to Bulgaria’s Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva in the Women’s doubles pre-quarterfinals.
