India’s HS Prannoy lost to Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen in the men’s singles quarter-final match at the Japan Open 2022. India’s only remaining shuttler in the badminton tournament, fell to a 17-21, 21-15, 22-20 defeat to the fourth seed and bronze medalist from BWF World Championship held last month. It was a marathon clash that lasted for one hour and 21 minutes. The 30-year-old India, who had ousted the 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore, in the pre-quarters on Thursday, made a good start and took a 11-7 lead in the first game. However, Chen came back into the game and pocketed the game.
He put up all out to attack to comeback in 2nd game 21-15 after going down in 1st 17-21 but, unfortunately went down 20-22 in last game against WR-6 Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen in QFs.#BWFWorldTour#Badmintonpic.twitter.com/PcARkZoPEY
Prannoy came out all guns blazing in the second half and easily won the game to take the match to the decider. The decider was a rollercoaster affair as Chen moved to a 11-5 lead before Prannoy came roaring back to level the game at 20-all. However, as the match entered the final phase, Chen eventually edged out the decider 22-20 to move to the least-4 of the competition.
