The Indian women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand and men’s singles player Kidambi Srikanth won their respective fixtures on Friday to advance to the semi-finals.
It was a mixed day for Indian shuttlers at the Hylo Open Super 300 tournament in Germany on Friday. Among the four quarterfinal matches featuring Indians two advanced to the next round while the other two were shown exit doors. Men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and Women’s singles shuttler Malavika Bansod tasted defeat and bowed out of the tournament. Meanwhile, the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand and men’s singles player Kidambi Srikanth won their respective fixtures to advance to the semi-finals.
Treesa and Gayatri defeated Taiwan’s Hsu Ya Ching/ Lin Wan Ching 21-17, 18-21, 21-8 in an hour. The world no. 28 Indian pair took the first game 21-17. In the second, the Taiwanese duo bounced back to level the parity 21-18. In the decider, the Indian pair opened up a 11-4 lead at the interval, and from there on, they maintained the lead and went on to pocket the game and thereby the match with relative ease. Meanwhile, Srikanth got the better of Jonatan Christie with a scoreline of 21-13, 21-19. The top ranked Indian player will next take on another Indonesian shuttler Anthony Ginting in the last-4 stage on Saturday.
