Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hylo Open Super 300 badminton tournament after a hard-fought victory against English duo of Rory Easton and Zach Russ in the pre-quarterfinal match on Thursday. The world no. 8 Indian duo beat the English pair with a scoreline of 22-24, 21-15, 21-11 in a match that lasted one hour and two minutes. Satwik and Chirag, who recently won the French Open Super 750 tournament, will be up against seventh-seeded English duo of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in the last-8 stage. Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles category, the Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand won 21-18, 21-19 against the Dutch duo of Debora Jille and Cheryl Seinen.

Treesa and Gayatri will next face Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Ya Ching and Lin Wan Ching in the quarter-finals. In the women’s singles category, Malavika Bansod beat world no.18 Kirsty Gilmour in straight games in the pre-quarterfinal match. Meanwhile world no. 11 Kidambi Srikanth beat France’s Arnaud Merkle in the men’s singles Round of 16 match. The 29-year-old former world no. 1 won the match with a scoreline of 11-21, 21-13, 21-10 in 50 minutes. This was Srikanth’s second successive three-game win. The Indian will next face Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in the quarter-final fixture on Friday.
