Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth reached the second round of the Denmark Open Super 750 badminton tournament after beating Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus on Tuesday. The 2021 World Championship silver medalist had to dig deep to secure a 17-21, 21-14, 21-12 win over the world number 14. Coming into the match with a 3-3 head-to-head record, Srikanth was pushed to the back foot mid-way through the first game as Angus took a 11-8 lead. The Hong Kong shuttler did not allow Srikanth to make a comeback and eventually pocketed the first game.

In the second game, Srikanth managed to take a 6-3 lead but Angus turned the tables to grab a 10-8 lead. However, the Indian quickly got his acts together to move to 16-10. The 29-year-old Indian held on to the lead, secured the second game with a score of 21-14 and took the match to the decider. In the final game, the former world no.1 came out all guns blazing, he produced some good quality shots at the net and also covered the court well to jump to a 11-4 lead. Srikanth maintained the lead to take the game at 21-12 and thereby the match. The Indian will next take on 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the next round.
